Fishing with the Pole Feeder or Fishing with the big stick, another technique that comes from England. It seems that the origin of this technique came from a dilemma between fishing with a big rod (Pole Fishing in English) and fishing with a cage feeder (Feeder Fishing in English); the solution to this dilemma was therefore the Pole Feeder Fishing. The idea is very simple: use feeder cages with a large cane; strange as an idea but very effective especially in rivers and canals.
The principle of fishing with the Pole Feeder
As with quivert ip fishing, the idea is the same: use a primer filled with primer and bait that you will put on the spot. The bait or feeder will disintegrate at the bottom of the water and attract fish around it, the likelihood that a fish will smear your bait hook will be greatly improved since the hook will be right on the hit you prepared. As with feeder fishing, the large cyprins that feed on the bottom are the fish to target for Pole Feeder fishing.
This technique is really very interesting to practice in rivers and canals, the currents of these fishing grounds are not always compatible for float fishing without the use of a massive lead. The Feeder fishing with a large rod allows to have a formidable precision for the priming and keeps the qualities of a fishing to be wedged for the maintenance of the line in the water, this last one being retained by the primer at the bottom of the water.
The equipment
Pole Feeder fishing is very rudimentary, it only requires a large pole for big fish, a strong nylon for the line body, a few feeder cages and a leader, no brain tangling regarding the choice of float or any lead.
Rod
A medium range large fish rod will be very well suited for a part of Pole Feeder fishing, but it must still be quite light because Feeder fishing with a large rod requires a lot of handling, a light rod will be more suitable for these handling.
Nylon
On the nylon side, most nylons are usable for big rod Feeder fishing, as long as the latter is strong enough to withstand the weight of the feeder cage and the assault of your catch. A nylon designed for quiver tip fishing will be most appreciated for Pole Feeder fishing, the characteristics of this kind of nylon are quite compatible for Feeder fishing with the big rod namely strength, low elasticity, knot resistance, etc.....
Primer
For the choice of the primer, more precisely the Pole Feeder, the ideal is to have feeder cages with a cylindrical lead at the base, the feeder designed in this way will go down to the bottom of the water without hanging on to the leader and will rest properly at the bottom of the water, even if any feeder cage can do the trick and in some cases the use of a large rectangular cage can be more beneficial for your fishing. The primers specially designed for Pole Feeder fishing are the most practical, the distance feeder cages designed on the same principle as the Pole Feeder are just as practical to use.
Line
Concerning the line, there is the Drennan Double Strength nylon, a flexible but resistant nylon, most suitable for making feeder leaders; the Browning Hybrid Power Mono is also very suitable. It is necessary to take into consideration the resistance of the line body and the bottom of the line, if the latter is more resistant than the line, in case of breakage the complete loss of the assembly is more than certain.
Hook
For the hook, you will most certainly have fish weighing between 1 and 5kg at the end of the hook, solid hooks are more than necessary.
