Longlining is quite simple and targets schools of fish.
What is the principle of this fishing technique?
Although very frequently used more frequently on mackerel, this fishing gives good results on Pollack.
Its principle is simple: it is a matter of assembling a train of 3 to 6 feathers with hooks and generally ballasting it with an undulating spoon. Then you have to send your line to a bank of Pollack and waddle in the water layer: this simulates the escape of a small fry that will inevitably fool the predator.
How to compose your line for longline fishing?
Longline are often marketed under the name "decoy train". They are composed of a line body on which are mounted stacks with lures.
These lures can be feathers or soft lures of all kinds, such as eels, octopus, imitation shrimps etc. As far as the Pollack is concerned, feathers are to be preferred. There are several colors, but our predator seems to have a preference for red, yellow and especially white, considered the most attractive color.
What setting should be done to fish for the Pollack with a longline?
The first essential information for the setting of your longline is that there is a sense to present the feather train: the leads must never stick to the line but must deviate sufficiently from it. They should therefore be pointed upwards and not downwards from the longline. To do this, encourage the use of a lead node rather than a loop-potent node.
All this is weighted with an undulating spoon at the end of the line: by its shape, the spoon causes a simulation of leakage at the slightest traction, which attracts the Pollack. As for its weight, depending on the weather conditions (wind, current, swell...) and depth, it can vary between 150 and 500g.
Where to fish for the Pollack with a longline?
The objective of this fishing technique is to reach schools of fish. They tend to approach the coast to look for their prey and prefer calm and sheltered places. Port works, basins, piers and wharves are therefore more suitable.
What equipment is needed to fish for Pollack with a longline?
For this technique, no complex or expensive equipment is required. As previously explained, you only need to have a line body and its feathers as well as an undulating spoon. In addition, you will need a rod with a power of 60 to 100 g, light and a length of about 3 or 4 m.
What is the animation technique for fishing for Pollack with a longline?
The animation technique is none other than the one of throwing and rowing: you have to throw and let your line run until it hits the bottom, raise it by two turns of the crank and finally waddle it regularly with large movements of the rod from bottom to top. Gradually, you will be able to vary the depth by grinding, bring your line back to you and then repeat the operation.
