FISHING EEL IN SURFCASTING

FISHING EEL IN SURFCASTING

Where to fish for eels while surfcasting?
It can easily be found on the beaches of the Opal coast, along large estuaries (on the Seine or the Loire, for example) and at the entrances to small rivers or port channels.

The best time to fish for eels while surfcasting and the bait used

Eels are caught surfcasting between April and November. Many baits can arouse the interest of the eel. In the spring, the crab or calf will be excellent. In summer, worms such as large arenas, mud bunches and earthworms will be very excellent.
Depending on the region, small fish, shells, cephalopods cut into thin strips will also allow you to make beautiful catches.
On hot days, it is recommended to fish in the evening or at the beginning of the night. In the middle of the day, stormy weather and low clouds are ideal for eel fishing.
In the north, before spring arrives, catches are most often made during high tides and quite far from the shore, but as soon as the sun returns, eels tend to approach the coast at night at the beginning of the tide. In the middle of summer, they can be found very close to the shore.
In the Atlantic Loire, depending on the fishing grounds, catches are made at the beginning of the rising tide. An example of bait that works well in this part of the coast: a cocktail of arenics and an earthworm.

Material of surfcasting

Rod: The surfcasting rod supports long throws with sometimes heavy weights. Thus a rod length of 3.90 meters remains a minimum, 4.20 meters seems to me to be a good ratio.
It will be press-in with 3 elements. The telescopic handlers, thicker but much shorter when folded, are interesting for transport and especially during the comings and goings of summer holidays if you know what I mean. The power should be 100-200 grams.
Reel: The fixed sea drum reel must be able to contain 250 to 300 meters of nylon from 50/100 to 35/100 (+ use of a torn off reel), these are large reels whose references often resonate in 5000, 6000 7000, 8000... The larger this number is the larger the reel is.
An additional reel is also interesting because you can have a reel lined with a large nylon and another with braid. As for the rod, the capacity and ratio information is recorded on the reel spool.
