Bombette fishing is a technique invented by Italian fishermen to fish for trout in lakes. Although this method of fishing is still relatively unknown to some people, it is becoming more and more common nowadays. It is even used for fishing carnivores (perch, pike, pike-perch, pike-perch...)
Easy to implement and requiring little preparation time, this fishing technique is perfectly suited both to beginners wishing to learn trout fishing in water bodies, and to experienced fishermen wishing to take advantage of its many possibilities.
But what does this technique really consist of? What equipment is suitable for this type of fishing? Here are some useful information that will help you start fishing with a bombette in good conditions.
Bombette fishing technique
To fully understand its principle, a brief description of the bombette is required. This is a plastic tube shaped accessory designed to hold the bait. The use of this technical ballast allows fishermen to throw a light line from a safe distance, but also to "control" the lure or bait once it is on the spot.
There are different types of bombettes of different weights and densities that allow you to reach the distances and areas you are looking for. A floating bombette with bait such as nymphs and grasshoppers is suitable for surface fishermen. To fish between two waters, it is advisable to use a semi-floating can with baits such as drowned flies and trout paste. For bottom fishing, the ideal is to use a diving bombette with soft lures.
Reduired equipment for bombette fishing
As far as the equipment is concerned, there are rods specially designed for bombing. The so-called "bombette" rods are generally telescopic and have a dimension between 3.9 and 4.5 m. They are made of carbon and their powers vary between 10 and 50 grams. If you are not considering paying for a specialized solution, a rod for English fishing is a good alternative. As for the reel, it should simply be lightweight and allow you to hold it in balance with the rod. Depending on your preferences, you can for example choose a fixed drum model with 18 or 20/100 nylons. It is also possible to use braiding, but be aware that there will be no major difference compared to nylon. As for the leader, it must be fine between 12 and 16/100, and ends with a single hook with an inverted point.
