« Walking the dog » technique to lead a lure

"Walking the dog" is a decoy animation with a name that is both pictorial and meaningful.
This so-called zig-zag swimming is intended to give the fish the impression that its prey is in a weak situation, and therefore, that it is vulnerable and accessible.

Walking the dog with surface lures

A formidable and effective technique on all positions, it is practiced on the surface. When recovering the line, it consists of giving small, regular and rhythmic strokes of the scion while placing the rod down (to keep the tip just above the water level).

- With a Popper

Even in bad weather, the Popper is particularly suitable for a smooth and accurate walking the dog.
Ideal for capturing beautiful specimens, a Popper with a chasing bevelled head allows the lure to slide to the surface and produce a noise that attracts fish.
Material: Rigid rods. For a heavy Popper, prefer a rod of distance and point action. For a small model, a precision progressive action rod is more appropriate.

- With a Pencil Popper

Known for its simplicity but above all its effectiveness, this lure allows for subtle changes of direction perfectly adapted to this animation. Designed to reach great distances, with its elongated shape, aerodynamics and sound signals, it has the advantage of stimulating the excitement and aggressiveness of fish, whatever the fishing conditions.
Material: a rod between 30 and 100g to adapt to the high weight of this type of lure.

- With a Stickbait

A cylindrical stickbait launches far away and gives a nonchalant swimming effect that is both wide and heavy even in the presence of current. Discreet and silent, its appeal lies in its ability to change angles easily and slide to the surface as soon as the line is relaxed.
Equipment: a cane with a tip or progressive action

Walking the dog with horizontal jigs

For shallow squid fishing, the horizontal jig combined with a walking dog swim gives very good results. To do this, it is advisable to push 3 to 6 jerks while slowly grinding so that the jig makes a wide movement from right to left.
