Deep-sea fishing

What is deep-sea fishing?
Deep-sea fishing is, as its name suggests, a deep-sea fishery. Performed at anchor or drifting, this vertical fishing makes it possible to explore underwater pits beyond 200 m and up to more than 1000 m. This exciting technique allows a wide variety of fish to be caught, which are not well known and inaccessible in conventional fishing, and is unanimously accepted by many enthusiasts.
Basically, deep-sea fishing is for everyone, regardless of the boat! Nevertheless, it requires adequate equipment and a good knowledge of suitable positions. How about we study the subject in more depth?

Where to fish in the deep sea?

Everywhere! Everywhere! On all the seas of the world, near the coasts, breaks, pits, deep drops etc., this technique has the particularity of allowing you to explore positions free of any fishing pressure, far from the noise of pelagic hunts. However, it is not a question of launching into it blindly: a thorough knowledge of the seabed is essential. Before any trip, remember to study nautical charts carefully, bring a good depth sounder and a GPS.

When to fish in the deep sea?

This technique is practiced all year round, it is simply a matter of being informed in advance of the weather conditions because due to the distance from the coast, an accident quickly happens! You also need to take into account the currents: depending on them, it is interesting to know how to wet the boat and choose the sealing of your line.

What fish can be caught?

Sword - conger - emperor - octopus - pink sea bream - whiting - halibut - pagoda - capon - cherry - scorpion fish - dock - hake - redfish - horse mackerel - dogfish - dogfish - grenadier - ray - shark etc.

What equipment should be used for deep-sea fishing?

Rod
Approximately 2 m long, a rod from 20 to 50 Lbs allows you to handle it more easily in order to handle deep fishing fixtures.
Lead
Preferably choose a lead from 500g to 2kg. The choice of its weight then depends on the depth and strength of the currents: do not forget that your line must remain in a vertical position under the boat.
Electric reel
A reel capable of supporting 400 to 500 m of braid will do the job.
Stroboscopic light
In the darkness of the depths, flashes of light and sound fool fish that think they are dealing with potential prey: they then come much closer to your line!
Hooks
From 20/0 to 4/0 depending on the fish you are looking for.

For which setting should I choose when fishing in the deep sea?

Prefer multiple stacked and terminal leaded leaders. The ready-to-fish fluorocarbon lines on the market are also yielding good results. In any case, the assembly must be resistant and must not become entangled during the many round trips between the bottom and the surface.
