Fishing for Pollack with natural baits

Where do you fish for Pollack with natural bait?
The Pollack most often evolves in groups of several individuals. As a young man, it lives near the coast. As it grows, it moves away from the shore to return to the open sea in search of deep areas and cold water. It is therefore by boat that you will have the best chance of catching large and beautiful specimens.
Areas around steep rock walls, wrecks, faults and areas with a concentration of large kelp are its favorite spots. At a depth of about 20 or 30 meters, the Pollack is placed in the pits and behind the obstacles to wait for its prey: there is no way to pursue it between two waters. It is therefore advisable to find it in its reference point and to shave off the crowded bottoms, where, for it, food abounds!

What natural baits should be used to fish for Pollack?

A little-aware predator, the Pollack feeds on small fish as well as cephalopods and crustaceans. To find it, a multitude of bait can then be suitable: worms (lugworm, nereid), crustaceans (crab, shrimp, bouquet), cephalopods (cuttlefish) and fish (horse mackerel, sardine, goby, herring, sand lance, mackerel, sprat, pout, old).
Even if the sand eel is generally the most used because it gives excellent results, mackerel is, for our English friends, a privileged bait. The principle consists in using only a strip of skin (cut into a triangle) and placing it on a hook at the end of a weighted lead line.
What techniques should be used to fish for Pollack using natural bait?
With the help of a sliding float of about 40 grams at the end of which you will have hung your bait (a live bouquet or a nereid) or even with a rowing throw, the place is generally not too long in coming.
For this last technique, do not hesitate to use a boat lead or an olive ring from 30 to 60 g followed by a leader of at least 1m and resistant.
If you use the famous sand eel, it is advisable to waddle gently near the bottom when drift fishing.
