Fishing bream from a dock or jetty

Fishing bream from a dock or jetty

Fishing by wedge is a variant of surfcasting fishing. Fishing by wedge means sending a line along a structure such as a dock or jetty and letting it rest at the bottom while waiting for a hit.

The ideal conditions for sea bream fishing

The sea bream particularly likes sandy bottoms, rich in shellfish and mussels.
It is generally fished in good weather. Clear waters, a slight swell, rather strong sunshine, a stable temperature for several days create the ideal conditions.
The most common setting used to fish for sea bream at the hold is the sliding setting with a straggler.

Make your own setting

These are the material used to fish bream:
- The line is 26/100 to 30/100.
- The line on which the lead slides is made of Nylon is about 30 cm long and has a diameter of 50/100 - a thin Nylon will eventually break because of the freely sliding olive. It is stopped on both sides by two black barrel swivels to avoid reflections.
- Lead: since sea bream is caught in sandy waters, it is preferable to use an olive-type lead that will not permanently cling to algae and rocks. You can choose a weight from 30 to 80 g.
- The laggard is the leader. The best is a nylon straggler, between 30 and 40/100 and a length of 80 to 150 cm. The hook must be light so that the Sea Bream can smell it as little as possible. It must also be very strong and sharp.

The bait

It is recommended to use a tube worm as bait. Cut 10 cm from the head and thread the worm from the body, so that the worm's head is positioned at the tip of the hook.
The lead and the reel
A surfcasting rod with a minimum length of 4m and a power of 50 to 100 grams must be used. You can also read the article "Choosing the right surfcasting rod".
For the reel, choose preferably one with progressive brake. Plan 250 m of line for the line body.

Fishing technique

When fishing from a boat, it is necessary to cast from a distance long enough to avoid that the natural mistrust of the sea bream breaks all chances of success. Throw at least at 30 meters.
For fishing from a dock or jetty, 20 meters will be sufficient.
Once the throw is completed, it is important to go up regularly to check the condition of the worm (about every 15 minutes). When the worm is white, it is necessary to replace it. Do not hesitate to test several zones, even if it means moving only a few meters.
This type of fishing requires special attention. Its keys can be extremely discreet. It is therefore essential to always keep a tight wire and to be constantly on alert. Another essential element: the brake must be completely released so that the bream does not feel any resistance.
