With its elongated silhouette like that of a snake and its smooth, viscous body, it is difficult to grasp the eel that moves easily in every corner. It is thanks to the secretion of a thick mucus that it can capture ambient oxygen to evolve on the ground and travel, out of the water, several hundred meters.
Where to fish for eels
Eels feed almost exclusively on the bottom and like to feed in areas where there are underwater obstacles or among reeds. The geographical distribution of eels covers an area of 80,000 kmÂČ. Scattered in most of the world's tropical and temperate seas, abundant in all freshwater rivers, it can be found from Iceland to the black sea along the Baltic and Mediterranean seas.
Seasons
Eels can be caught all year round, but are generally considered to be summer eels. The months of July to October are the best months to capture them. They usually start feeding at nightfall, which gives them the best time to catch them at dusk, through the night and at dawn.
Setting for eel in boat fishing
A setting for the eel must be as simple as possible. This fish has no equal to entangle the lines, and the less complicated your setting is, the easier it will be to redo.
There is usually a sliding device. For example, a 100 to 150-gram hexagonal lead with pierced pins can be used.
The lead will be 60 cm long with a 30/100 rod.
Hooks numbered 2 to 4 work very well for eel fishing.
BEST baits
Eels feed exclusively on the bottom and survive almost anything of animal origin, living or dead. As such, baits such as worms, maggots or small dead baits work particularly well when fishing for eels.
Eels will be used for most of the live bait often used by fishermen, such as worms and worms. The largest eels catch dead bait from coarse fish or whole or broken marine fish.
