Support fishing for Bass

Support fishing for Bass

The support fishing is a bottom fishing technique. It consists in putting a setting of a lead with one or more hooks that are let down. Once the assembly is at the bottom, the line is stretched and the touch is waited, keeping the rod in hand. You can fish with different baits depending on the morphology of the bottom.
Like all bait fishing techniques, you have to find the right balance between discretion and robustness. The bar will have time to go around the setting before swallowing the bait, so maximum discretion is required.

The Setting

You need a 35 hundredth fluorocarbon leader (1.5m) to which you will connect a second thinner leader (20 hundredths) about 1m50 long using a pater noster swivel. At this second leader, you will fix a lead of 20 to 80 or even 100 grams depending on the depth and the current.
You will attach the 35 hundredth fluorocarbon stack with a hook n°2 up to 2/0 (depending on the size of the bait) on the third ring of the pater noster. A long stack will be more discreet and therefore preferable (between 1 and 2m). The bass bites better when there is only one well-presented stack.

Bait

sand eel
To catch big bass, the best bait is the live sand eel. This small eel-shaped fish is one of the favorite dishes of big bass. It is caught on beaches, buried under the sand during high tides with a rake, an inverted shovel or other. It can also be taken by net in tarpaulins during high tides.
Advantages:
- Selective → we only catch bass, and big ones
- Extremely attractive
- Easy drying
Inconvenience:
- Very difficult to find and keep alive
- Quite fragile on the hook
The sand eel is pricked between the two eyes, on the lower lip or by the tail. Pitting it between the eyes reduces its life expectancy in the water.
It is also possible to make a setting with two hooks to increase the chances of catching. One dive at the tail and the other at the lower lip (this is recommended).
Grey shrimp or bouquet
Shrimp or bouquet are the best bait choice for the sea bass. A live, well presented shrimp is easy prey for predators. It can be fished in the tarpaulins with a landing net during low tide, or even directly on the beach.

Advantages:
- Very attractive
- Easy to find
- Easy to search for
Inconvenience:
- Very fragile
- Bait to keep alive

Material

Rod
You will need a relatively short rod with a power of about 50-150g. The recommended size varies between 2.20m and 2.60m.
Reel
The reels recommended for this type of fishing are fixed drum sea reels with a power of 4000. It is recommended to use a strong but light reel as you will hold the rod throughout the fishing trip.
Line
Reel filled with line between 13 and 15 hundredths.
The fluorocarbon leader will consist of two parts. The first in 35 or 40 hundredths and the second in 20 hundredths in order to lose only the lead if it hangs on.
